What we believe about generosity

It's all God's

We believe that everything we have belongs to God, not only our financial resources but also the abilities that we have that even allow us to earn money… and that there is nothing we have that we haven’t been given. This means that we want to be good stewards of his resources - to use our time, talents, and treasures in ways that honor and reflect his purposes in the world.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. — Psalm 24:1

Blessed to Bless

We believe that when God blesses he calls us to share that blessing with the world, not hoard it for ourselves. We are to be conduits for God’s love and provision to those around us, extending his grace into the world.

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. — 2 Corinthians 9:11

For Us, Not From Us

We believe that God doesn’t need our generosity, but rather he desires us to become generous for our own good. Learning to live generously transforms our hearts by loosening the grip that our possessions have on us and helping us live freely and contently as disciples of Jesus.

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

Give First, Live Second

We believe that giving is part of what it means to put God first. Giving first is a way of declaring our trust and dependency on God to meet all of our needs. Moreover, when we live generously, we are declaring that God’s kingdom matters more than our wants and desires.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. — Matthew 6:33

Go Against the Grain

We believe that living a life of generosity is one of the ways that God calls us to live counter-culturally. In a society that promotes the constant pursuit of more, God invites us to resist that way of life and instead live with open hands, trusting in him to provide all that we need.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. — Romans 12:2

Giving > Getting

We believe that it truly is more blessed to give than to receive, and that when we give, we experience a joy that cannot be experienced apart from God.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. — Acts 20:35
