Bottom Line

Loving in the way of Jesus isn’t always convenient or natural, but it is better.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
I John 4:7-8

Our culture says that love is a warm fuzzy feeling.

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
I John 3:18

Love should come from a place of conviction, not convenience.

Our culture says love is an obligation.

Love is an opportunity, not an obligation.

In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.
I John 5:3-4

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
I John 2:15-17

Our culture says love is something conditional that needs to be earned.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.
I John 4:18-19

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
