Message Notes
Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10

Jesus came with an invitation for us to join the in-breaking kingdom of God.

Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:14-15

"Whatever Jesus’ Kingdom-Announcement was all about — it was about something that actually happens, within the space-time world."
— NT Wright

"You’ve likely heard it is said that Christians are often fixated on getting people to heaven, but Jesus seemed focused on unleashing heaven here on earth. The kingdom of God is here!"
— Adam Hamilton

"Some faiths detach the individual believer from concern about earthly matters. Christianity is not one of those religions. The kingdom for which we pray is not “pie in the sky by-and-by.” The kingdom is now."
— William Willimon & Stanley Hauerwas

"The second main petition of the Lord’s Prayer — ‘Thy kingdom Come’ — rules out any idea that the Kingdom of God is purely heavenly (that is, ‘otherwordly’) reality. Thy kingdom come, we pray, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
— NT Wright

Bottom Line

Praying “Thy Kingdom Come” beckons us to participate in God’s Kingdom Come.

Question 1: What is the Kingdom of God?

  1. The kingdom of God is based on an exclusive claim — the claim that Jesus alone is King.
  2. While the kingdom of God is based on an exclusive claim— it’s radically inclusive in nature.
  3. The kingdom of God is present and coming — it’s already, but not yet.

Question 2: How do we join God's Kingdom?

Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:14-15

When you repent and believe, you make King Jesus and His kingdom the center of your life.

Action Steps

  • Is there anything competing with your allegiance to Jesus?
  • Where might God be inviting you to join in the kingdom of God?
  • This week, practice ora et labora.
Here’s how: Identify an area of brokenness you see in the world. Spend some time each day praying for God’s kingdom to come and will to be done over that area. As you pray, be open to any ways God might be inviting you to join the work of God’s kingdom coming in that area.
