Message Notes
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
1 Corinthians 13:4

Bottom Line

God wants to invite us to walk at the pace of his love and grace.

"God walks ‘slowly’ because he is love.  Otherwise, he would have gone faster.  Love has a speed.  It is an inner speed.  It is a spiritual speed.  It is different from the speed of technology to which we are accustomed.  It is ‘slow.’  Yet it is the speed of love, and it is the lord over all other speeds."
— Kosuke Koyama

God is a God of patience.

[God] passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness…
Exodus 34:6
Do you show contempt for the riches of God’s kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
Romans 2:4

Jesus was never in a hurry.

"Above all trust in the slow work of God."
— Pierre Teilhard De Chardin

The early church demonstrated a patient trust in God’s unhurried faithfulness.

"God’s mission is unhurried and unstoppable."
— Alan Kreider

How do we cultivate patience?

  1. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you patience
  2. Cut yourself and others some patience
  3. Slow down

Action Steps

Create some space this week to reflect on one or all of the following questions:

  • Where is God inviting you to experience God’s patient kindness in your life?
  • Where is God inviting you to demonstrate patient kindness toward others?
  • In what areas of your life do you need to slow down and change your pace?
  • In what areas is God inviting you to grow in long-suffering and forbearance?

Continue to pray this prayer every day this week:

Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
