Message Notes
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Genesis 2:15-17

"I can be in a perfect world with the fruit of all trees but one available to me, but if I construe it as not good enough because the fruit of that one tree is withheld from me I will not rejoice"
- Miroslav Volf

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
I Timothy 6:6-8

Bottom Line

Contentment is primarily an internal practice, not an external circumstance.

"The christian uses things with thankfulness and prayer, but all the while they are free... The way we live our life, work, relate, and own things should be a living sermon pointing to the fact that some things will pass away."
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
